Tell us a bit about yourself?
My family and I took on Cantina in December 2016. My father owns the Thai restaurant Sukawatee (80 Hermitage Road), and we saw a lot of potential in Cantina. My professional background is in marketing, however, I’ve spent many years in the creative world of catering and baking so it’s a big passion of mine.
What is your company all about?
If you love Italian food Cantina is the place to come! It’s an exciting time for our customers – we’ve just launched a brand new menu packed with delicious salads, paninis, soups and risotto dishes. All of our freshly prepared food is traditionally Italian, Roberto (our Manager) wouldn’t have it any other way. Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue expanding our food and drinks offering, with breakfasts next on our list.
Our deli is always stocked with a range of tasty Italian meats and cheese, and our shelves offer authentic Italian pasta, sauces, coffee, oils and vinegars so you can take some home!
What exciting events do you have coming up?
On Saturday 22nd April we’re holding the next Open Mic Night organised by our very own Amy Arnold to help raise money for her volunteering opportunity in Nicaragua. There’ll be plenty of live music, Italian food and drinks. Tickets are £10 in advance, or on the door and includes a free drink.
Cantina is open every Friday evening for people to come and meet up with friends, enjoy music from a live pianist and a relax with a glass (or two) of Prosecco.
What makes Hitchin such a great place to be located?
Hitchin has an amazing community. We love welcoming our regulars as well as new faces into Cantina. During Valentines this year we asked people to write down what they loved about Hitchin and were inundated with contributors, which just shows how special this town is.
There’s such a vibrant cafe culture here and a great range of independent retailers which we feel lucky and proud to be part of.
Why is word of mouth important to you as a business?
Recommendations from friends and family mean the world to small, independent businesses like us. Our team is passionate about delivering great food, great service and welcoming atmosphere. We really value feedback, which helps us give all we can to make every customer’s visit memorable.
Check out Cantina’s website to see their new menu and be sure to head down to the Open Mic Night on Saturday!
