Tell us a bit about yourself?
Hey! My name is Jack Jacobs, I’m 21 years old and I am currently on KPMG’s School Leaver Programme and co-founder of The Instinctive Investors. I am pursuing the ACA and an Accounting degree from Durham University alongside my work commitments. I have a passion for finance and empowering individuals to ultimately inspire and motivate others to become the very best they can be!
What is The Instinctive Investors all about?
The Instinctive Investors is the bridge between knowledge and intelligence, empowering students to apply themselves. There’s a quote by Herbert Spencer that I always refer to when speaking about TII, “The great aim of education is not knowledge but action”. I believe that students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds should act on the knowledge they consume on a daily basis. I also believe that students need to stand out from the crowd given the current job climate; a degree alone is not enough anymore. The theoretical side of everything can be grasped, however, the application of it in the real world is a different ball game and we are encouraging students to venture into unknown territories in specific areas that they are passionate about. We are building a hub, a community, full of like-minded individuals who can ultimately connect, interact and empower each other. TII’s mission is to build the bridge between knowledge and intelligence and inspire the next generation of finance, economics and business enthusiasts. TII also looks to bring the platform to life in the form of events, that will be carried out at schools, colleges and universities.
How important is TII for young people?
The education system confines students to a syllabus and heavily focuses on grades and puts consistent pressure on students to achieve specific grades. Your examiners, professors and lecturers govern what you learn and what questions you answer in your exams. TII provides students with the complete freedom to write, speak and talk about anything in which they are passionate about. It’s about finding what you like, enjoy and feel strongly about. Passion drives individuals to implement change, it can also lead to frustration, for which I believe when the best solutions are discovered and most importantly, it makes students stand out from the crowd. Employers look for intelligent individuals, not merely knowledgeable students and thus by joining TII, you are instantly recognised as someone who goes the extra mile to apply the knowledge you learn.
Our vision is to build a global community of students, where key discussions take place, perspectives are shared and solutions are found.
Why do you think people make such great entrepreneurs?
People are passionate when they find something they love. Entrepreneurship can be viewed in many different ways, depending on who you ask and at what stage of their life you ask them. For me, entrepreneurship is about searching for your innate passion and aligning your business and energy towards that. People make such great entrepreneurs because when you do truly find what makes you tick in the morning, your focus is defined and you will put yourself under great pressure to achieve it.
Why is word of mouth important to you as a business?
Recommendations are one of the key elements to growth. Because recommendations are personal, each one provides a different perspective and voice and thus they truly make a difference.
Remember that Recommendable and Word of Mouth are the best ways to Grow your Business.
