Meet The Team: Alex Owen (Software Engineer)
This week we welcome Alex into the Recommendable team. As our newest member, he comes in with a fresh insight and a load of great new ideas. He is already excited to get stuck into making your experience of Recommendable as fun and natural as possible.
Alex is a Software Engineer that we’ve taken on to add some great new features to the site as we come out of Beta testing. He comes to us with lots of experience of both large scale commercial and academic projects, so we know he’ll fit right in.
Having always been interested in computers, he started programming in Basic at age six in a Dos prompt, which has led to a lifelong obsession with building programs and Web sites that are fun and easy to use (because Dos is neither of these things). After getting a Masters degree from UCL in Computer Science he spent a few years working for BAE Systems as a Web developer. While at BAE he worked with several multinational companies and both domestic and international government agencies on projects from e-commerce to mobile phone provisioning to security.
When he’s not working, Alex is studying for a Ph.D. in the Internet of Things and Web Science at the University of Southampton. He also teaches programming and Web design to students at the university.
When he’s procrastinating from work you’ll find him on the bouldering wall or halfway up a rock face. In case you’re wondering, he’s definitely much better at programming than climbing.
